Bahrain's King Hamad is expected to make a landmark visit to India by the end of the year following an invitation from President APJ Abdul Kalam which was handed over to him by Ahamed on Sunday.

"We are all eagerly looking forward to His Majesty's landmark visit, when several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) on issues of common interest could also be signed," Ahamed told reporters.

"I assured the Bahraini leaders of India's willingness to transfer its technology and expertise for the Kingdom's overall development," he said.

"We praised Bahrain's role in strengthening not only the bilateral relationship, but also India's relationship with the GCC countries in general."

The King touched upon the labour market reforms pursued by the Crown Prince, BDF Commander-in-Chief and Economic Development Board (EDB) chairman Shaikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

"The King said the reforms would prove beneficial to the Indian community," Ahamed said adding India has also proposed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the GCC countries.
