India's 'milkman' calls it quits

Verghese Kurien was chairman of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited for last 34 years.

Verghese Kurien, chairman of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Limited, on Monday resigned from the post that he held for the last 34 years.

Kurien said he had taken the decision to resign because Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) had expressed no confidence against him.

"I have been the Chairman of GCMMF for five decades since its inception in 1973. Do I deserve this kind of treatment?" he asked.

Kurien is also the Chairman of Institute of Rural Management, Anand (IRMA).
