Indian sports revenue to near $2bn mark by 2015: Study

The business of sports will generate an annual revenue nearing $2 billion (R10634) in India by 2015, primarily boosted by the income from the TV media and sponsorships, as per a study.

The country would witness a significant surge in TV advertising and sponsorship income in the coming years, making India the second-best revenue generator after Brazil among the BRIC countries (a four-nation bloc of emerging countries that also includes Russia and China), found the study conducted by PriceWaterhouseCoopers.

However, the size of Indian sports business would still account for just about 1.3 % of the worldwide revenues of $ 145.3 billion in 2015.
