The step was taken to bolster the demand for a probe by the CBI into the scam.

Along with this, the state Congress plans to launch a popular agitation over the issue. “It has to be a people’s movement, not just a (Congress) party movement,” Madhya Pradesh Congress spokesperson K.K. Mishra said here on Sunday.

Vijayvargiya, who was Indore Mayor in 2004, and BJP MLA Ramesh Mendola have been accused of allowing the sale of a leasehold government land worth Rs 100 crore to a credit cooperative society formed by Mendola.

A local court had directed the Lokayukta to probe irregularities in the alleged sale.
