The highlights of the programme were a dance sequence by Leena Siddhu, music by Sujata Majumdar and anchoring by VJ and model Ruby Bhatia. People of all age groups had gathered on the sprawling lawns and danced their way into 2006 cheered on by Ruby Bhatia.

The other programmes were ‘Aagaz’ a live ‘ghazal’ performance by Zulfikar Khan held at Kebabsville. Khan serenaded his audience in his own ‘andaaz’ and ‘awaaz’ to make a perfect ‘agaaz’ for the New Year.

‘Club Bash-2006’ was held at Sayaji Vatika exclusively for club members. The hotel escorted it’s esteemed guests into 2006 with their DJ lining up exciting numbers with dexterity on the turn-table and the chef churning up special surprises of his own. The young couples had their own space at ‘Bollywood reloaded’ held at the newly spruced up discotheque, Critical Mass. The guests hit the dance floor to the grind created by rapper Earl and DJ Veeru.

Teenagers rocked around the clock at Go Bananas with funky, freaky and exciting music played by DJ’s to usher in the New Year neck deep in fun.

Every hotel, club, resort and motel had prepared well in advance to attract partygoers and revellers for New Year’s Eve bash. The district administration and police had also prepared to maintain law and order while most of the denizens spent the night away from home.

Some incidents of violence were reported late in the night when hoodlums went on the rampage against what they perceived to be the portrayal of western culture against the ethos of Indian morality. Some of them pelted stones on vehicles parked outside Sayaji hotel and managed to damage some windshields before being chased away by the police and Special Task Force personnel.

Some incidents of a similar nature occurred at Chhapan Dukan and Rajwada Square. The Collector had to leave his vehicle and wield the stick at LIG Square to disperse a mob. However, the situation at large remained under control and most people were able to enjoy the New Year in relative peace and calm.
