Inquiry ordered into Faridabad building collapse

The Palwal district administration has initiated an inquiry into the building collapse which claimed eight lives on Monday evening. At the same time, the district police has also registered an FIR against the contractor who is absconding.

The Palwal district administration has initiated an inquiry into the building collapse which claimed eight lives on Monday evening. At the same time, the district police has also registered an FIR against the contractor who is absconding.

“We have ordered an inquiry into Monday’s building collapse incident,” said Romesh Verma, deputy commissioner, Palwal, adding that all the issues including the permission for construction, quality of material used etc will be looked into. A case under section 304 of IPC has been registered against Shabudin, the contractor, said SP Palwal Anil Dhawan, adding, “efforts are being made to arrest the contractor for negligence”.

It may be mentioned that eight labourers died after an under-construction building of the Sri Ram Engineering College collapsed on Monday evening.

The construction work on some buildings of the college situated along the NH-2, about 12 kilometres from Palwal township, was going on when it collapsed around 6.30pm on Wednesday. In all, ten laborers were working at the spot when the pillars collapsed.

Eight of the workers were declared dead while two others suffered multiple injuries and are under going treatment at civil hospital, Palwal. The deceased belonged to different parts of Bihar.
