IPI gas pipeline should start soon: Musharraf

President Pervez Musharraf has said work on the Iran-Pakistan-India (IPI) gas pipeline should be started soon as it would ensure abundant power supply to the region.
Musharraf said this while talking to Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki who called on him in Army House, Rawalpindi on Thursday, the Online news agency reported.
Citing the importance of the pipeline, Musharraf reiterated that the gas pipeline project between the three countries would usher in an era of development and prosperity.
He also said Pakistan would withstand any external pressure regarding the gas pipeline because it was in dire need of cheap energy supply.
Musharraf also said Pakistan wants Iran's nuclear issue to be resolved peacefully and the use of force against Tehran would destabilise the whole region.
He expressed solidarity with Iran on securing the nuclear programme for peaceful purposes.
Both sides also discussed the situation in Afghanistan whereas the Iranian minister intimated the president of his dialogue with EU and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) where Iran reiterated it would not abandon the nuclear programme, which was meant for peaceful use.
