Immense shortage of job-ready IT professionals. Companies usually take six months after hiring a fresher to make him ready for the industry.

* The growing need for professionals leads to mass-hiring techniques. And when you are doing mass-hiring you cannot pick and choose every candidate. This results in the dilution of the quality of the workforce.

* The dependence on the US for revenues — 61 per cent of all exports in 2007 were from the US. This can dent profits at a time when the dollar is declining.

* According to a survey by Emmay HR, IT and BPO companies have one of the highest attrition rates compared to all the other sectors.
