IT job market growing by 30 per cent annually

The IT industry, which currently employes one million people, would provide jobs for another one million software experts in the next 3-5 years, a top Infosys official said on Saturday.
India would be the 'Back Office' and 'IT Hub' for various developed nations and IT companies would continue to recruit two lakh software professionals every year, Infosys COO and Chairman of CII's Karnataka unit S Gopalakrishnan said in Madurai.
The IT sector would also help generate indirect employment on other sectors, he said, adding five to six million people would join other industries as there would be demand for cars, houses, electronic goods and retail activities.
Another advantage for India was it would be the 'youngest country' for the next 20-25 years. Seven million people would be in the job market, he said, adding all those should be trained to get jobs in IT companies.
As people in developed countries were getting older, they expected services from India and other developing countries, he said.
"It is a knowledge revolution that is taking place in the world, and we cannot afford to miss it."
He said software played a major role in various products, from cars to washing machines. In fact, processors were more expensive than the automobile components, and the development of such processors would continue for another 10 years.
IT played an important role in development of other technologies such as bio-technology and nano-technology.
The IT industries would sustain for 20 to 30 years, and the major advantage was that it would have a positive impact. When the Indian market was opened up the IT industries took the maximum advantage and developed at a good speed, he added.
