The officials reportedly seized some documents from the hospitals. However, they refused to give any details to the press here before leaving for Chennai.

The IT raid comes close on the heels of Sampath's open rebellion against the DMK leadership over denial of party ticket for the May 8 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.

Sampath, who had twice represented Mugaiyur and hailed from a hardcore DMK family, quit the party protesting against allocation of the seat to the Pattali Makkal Katchi.

His mother Padmavathy had also represented the constituency twice and his father A Govindasamy had served as Agriculture Minister in the former Chief Minister CN Annadurai's Cabinet.
