The notification follows the recent rejection of the State Government's stand over the medical college by the High Court and would help dispel confusion over the status of the all-important institution and hospitals associated to it.

The notification— No.21/Registrar/408/2006 and dated November 17, 2006— issued by the AU Registrar Firdous A Wani states that, "It is hereby notified for information of all concerned that Motilal Nehru Medical College and Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital, Allahabad shall be the University College, as resolved by the Executive Council in its meeting held on March 21, 2006 vide Resolution 10, and as enumerated in Statute 30(4) of the Statutes of the University set out in the schedule as provided under Section 28(1) of the University of Allahabad Act, 2005 (No. 26 of 2005)."

It is worth mentioning that it was against the Executive Council's March 21 resolution that the State Government had submitted a representation in the High Court but that was set aside by the Court.

The copies of the notification have been sent to all the Deans (Arts/Commerce/Law/Medicine/Science), DSW, Dean (CDC), Secretary (Medical Education), UP, Director General (Medical Education), UP besides all the heads of the departments and AU Finance Officer besides other officials concerned.

The notification is expected to speed up the development work and improvement of infrastructure in the medical college as well as in the hospitals associated to it.

Hailing the move, AU Executive Council member Sunit Vyas said that it would usher in a new era of improvement and development in the medical college and the hospitals for the benefit of the medical students as well as the people.

He said the issue of salary and pay packages would also be dealt with quickly so as to ensure that Central benefits are made available to the teachers, doctors as well as non-teaching staff members working in the medical college and in its
hospitals.
