J&K: Slight respite from intense cold

There has been a slight respite from intense cold as night temperatures across the Valley registered an improvement of several degrees on Sunday. Srinagar registered a minimum temperature of 1.4° Celsius as against the Sunday night's 2.4° Celsius, a meteorological official said.

Pahalgam, a health resort in south Kashmir, settled at 0.1° Celsius, down from the 0.5° Celsius recorded on Sunday, added the official.

The ski-resort of Gulmarg recorded a low of 0.4° Celsius as compared to 1.6° Celsius a day earlier.
Leh continued to be the coldest place in the state as the town shivered at minus 5.6° Celsius, while the night temperature in the Kargil town was recorded at minus 2.0° Celsius as against Sunday night's minus 3.0° Celsius, he said.

The night temperature in the south Kashmir town of Kokernag registered a low of 2.1° Celsius, as against the 1.1° Celsius recorded a night earlier.

Kupwara, in north Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 0.5° Celsius as against the previous nights 0.8° Celsius, he said.

The MeT department has forecast mainly dry weather across Kashmir division over the next 24 hours.
