Jains propagate ?live and let live? message

IN A bid to propagate the message of Bhagwan Mahavir ‘Live and Let Live’, hundreds of birds were freed from their cages by the members of Jain community in Varanasi on Saturday.

The occasion was part of week-long religious function, ‘Dashlakshan’ at Sarnath in Varanasi on Saturday. The function is being organised under the joint auspices of Shri Digamber Jain Samaj Kashi, Bhartiya Jain Samaj and Rastriya Mahasamiti of Digamber Jain.

The hunters also took oath of non-violence to keep themselves away from their profession of hunting birds and animals.

A seminar was also organised to mark the occasion.

Speakers were of the view that people should absorb the principle of non-violence. “The problem of violence and religious orthodoxy, prevailing all over the world, would be redressed when the people follow the path of non-violence, ‘Live and Let others Live’, said ADM (city) Indra Vikram Singh.

Chief superintendent of jail VK Jain exhorted the kids to show kindness towards birds “Keeping birds in cages is a violence and people should free them”, he said.

Prominent among others who participated in function included superintendent of police (rural) Lalit Kumar, secretary of Shri Digamber Jain Samaj Kashi Rakesh Jain, Mahendra Raj Lunavat, Shesh Pal Garg, Shanti Lal Jain, Vineeta Dixit etc.
