Mubarak has played at virtually all levels for Sri Lanka. The left-hander is a very good fielder which is a big bonus in one-day cricket.

He made his Test debut against Bangladesh in August 2002 and scored 24 as an opener followed by a 31.

Mubarak was close to making a half-century against South Africa in November, but fell two runs short.

That innings and a number of good all-round performances earned him his place in the World Cup squad.
