Jennifer Capriati (US)
Lives: Saddlebrook, Florida
Plays: Right-handed (double-handed backhand)
Grand slam titles: Three (Australian Open 2001, 2002, French Open 2001)
Record at US Open: 2003-semi-final, 2002-quarter-finals, 2001-semi-finals, 2000-fourth round, 1999-fourth round, 1998-first round, 1997-first round, 1996-first round, 1993-first round, 1992-third round, 1991-semi-finals, 1990-fourth round.
Burst on to the scene as a 13-year-old in 1990 reaching the semi-finals at Roland Garros.
A fierce hitter and even fiercer competitor, she came back from five years in the wilderness to beat Martina Hingis in the 2001 Australian Open final, her first grand slam title.
Has not managed another grand slam title since the Australian in 2002 and has never reached the final at Flushing Meadows, a record that she would desperately love to put right.
The 1992 Olympic champion, she withdrew from this month's Athens Games with hamstring strain.
