Ram Jethmalani, who was expelled by the BJP in May this year, filed a damage suit in the Delhi high court earlier this month against members of the party’s parliamentary board and later withdrew it last week, citing errors that needed correction.

In his suit, Jethmalani sought damages of `50 lakh from nine of the 11 members of the BJP’s board, excepting former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and PM candidate Narendra Modi, whom he has publicly backed for the top post. Jethmalani was not available for comment.

In his petition, he held that the board’s decision to expel him was arbitrary, arguing that it did not have the authority to expel him, and that the language used in the letter that informed him of his expulsion tarnished his image.

Jethmalani was expelled from the BJP after he openly attacked opposition leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley over the appointment of CBI director, saying they were against Ranjit Sinha because they favoured then Delhi police chief Neeraj Kumar.
