THE TEN-DAY ‘Jhanda Uncha Rahe Hamara’ programme got underway with the felicitation of freedom fighters and after homage was paid to the martyrs at the replica of India Gate at the Regal crossing here today.

Hundreds of school children, prominent people of the City and politicians witnessed the inauguration of the programme that was started four years ago to inculcate the spirit of patriotism among the youth and to celebrate Republic Day as a festival. The children had a gala time and took part in a number of competitions organised on the occasion.
Interestingly, instead of clapping, the children waved the small Indian Tricolour flags they were carrying, to show their appreciation whenever any of the speakers said anything that caught their interest.
Organised jointly by Seva Saurabh, Indore Municipal Corporation and district administration, the programme started with floral tributes to the martyrs and singing of the national song by school children. Then at a function organised at the SP office, freedom fighters were felicitated with sriphal, shawl and a citation.
On the occasion, freedom fighters Manoharsingh Mehta, Neelkanth Sherlekar, Ramchandra Malvi, Rakhabchand Bawel, Narendrasingh Tomar, Gopilal Sharma, Veereshwar Pandey, Tukaram Bargal, Dattatray Naik, Dr Dattatray Kapse, Ramnarayan Tiwari, Dr Madhukar Gholap, Sriram Aagar, Shivnarayan, Bhau Sahab among others were felicitated.
Presiding over the function former advocate general Anand Mohan Mathur, while narrating a story said that the position of the country was much higher than even those of the saints. Patron of Seva Saurabh and journalist Rajesh Chelawat said that the main aim behind the programme was to make the younger generation aware of the importance of independence, and also to instill a sense of duty and responsibility towards the nation among the youths.
Collector Dr Rajesh Rajora commended the work being done by Seva Saurabh in this connection. SP Adarsh Katiyar, Additional Collector C B Singh, Gandhian Kutty Menon, City Congress president Ujagar Singh, district Congress president Ramchandra Agrawal, K K Mishra, corporators Iftekar Munna Ansari, former corporator Ganesh Chaudhary.
Arvind Bagri conducted the programme and Seva Bharti coordinator Omprakash Nareda proposed vote of thanks. As part of the function, an all-India level mushaira would be held on the night of January 25 at the Rajwada, which is being organised by MLA Ashwin Joshi.
