Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (Soren) will contest in only 57 seats in West Bengal for the upcoming assembly polls, as Congress, its ally, "back tracked" from plans to share seats with it.
JMM president of West Bengal committee Ajit Prasad Mehata told newsmen in Purulia on Saturday that the Congress, which had earlier agreed to share seats with JMM (Soren), had now "back tracked".
Of the 57 seats, the JMM would field 11 candidates in Purulia, 13 in Bankura, nine in Burdhwan and eight in West Midnapore districts, he said.
The party will also put up candidates in Malda, West Dinajpur and Darjeeling.
