THE JAWAHARLAL Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) sanctioned a sum of Rs 41 crore for phase two of the Bond Road project at a meeting held at New Delhi on Friday.
Mayor Uma Shashi Sharma, accompanied by Additional Municipal Commissioner Kumar Purshottam, submitted a Rs 50 crore detailed project report (DPR) at the meet for the Bond Road proposal, which was approved by Mission bosses after slight paring.
According to Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) sources, the amount will go towards bankrolling the Race Course Road, the under-construction stretch from Mahesh Guard Line to Banganga and Pagnispaga near the Collectorate.
The Centre’s nod is a lucky break for the Mayor who, despite repeated trips to Bhopal, has not been able to persuade the State Government to part with any funds.
Municipal Commissioner Vinod Sharma was originally supposed to accompany the Mayor, but he was forced to drop out at the last minute after he was summoned to Gwalior in connection with the ongoing investigation in the Simroli land scam in which he is one of the accused.
