The governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh will jointly launch military operations against the underground and militant outfits, which have taken shelter in the deep forests of both states, especially in Arunachal. Both the governments have asked their security wings to collect specific data about the number of militants lodged in the deep jungles and also about their movements, before planning attacks on them.

An official of the state home department said that the decision for joint operations, scheduled to begin in March, was taken after the chief ministers of both the states, Tarun Gogoi and Gegong Apang had a long discussion over phone. Arunachal Paradesh chief minister Gegong Apang has been concerned about the rising number of ULFA and NSCN (Khaplang) militants, who had taken refuge in its bordering forests and also about the fact that the two powerful outfits were, of late, had been in close contact with each other, with the NSCN warriors even training the ULFA members.
