The hospital’s operation theatre was shut down completely for almost the entire day and no operations could be performed. The OPDs, however, functioned normally and senior doctors and consultants examined patients. The patients visiting the OPDs did not face any difficulties as a result.

Junior doctors and students from almost all departments of the hospital stepped in on Monday in support of their fellow students who have been on strike for the past six days now. The agitating medicos raised slogans against the State Government alleging of a lacklustre attitude towards cancer patients.

Criticising the fact that only a handful of beds were available in the hospital for cancer patients, the striking medicos added even the existing facilities were far below standards. The medicos demanded immediate repair of the machines and equipment in the radiotherapy department.

They have threatened of a statewide stir in all five medical colleges if the State Government did not give a positive response to their demands.
