?Kala Yatra? to add colour

Organising the 'Kala Yatra' will be a new concept which will add new dimensions to the cultural extravaganza 'Kala Mela' which has been taking place at Allahabad University for the past five years, said Dhananjay Chopra, senior journalist and co-convener of the event in a press conference held here on Monday.

Organising the 'Kala Yatra' will be a new concept which will add new dimensions to the cultural extravaganza 'Kala Mela' which has been taking place at Allahabad University for the past five years, said Dhananjay Chopra, senior journalist and co-convener of the event in a press conference held here on Monday.

Informing about the Kala Yatra, Chopra said it will start from Subhash Crossing, Civil Lines on February 2.

Rajendra Singh Rana, State Cultural and Women Welfare Minister will flag off the Yatra. Besides the students, the naval cadets will also participate in the event.

Tributes will be paid to the Netaji and national song 'Vande Matram' will be presented. Afterwards the Kala Yatra will proceed towards the Delegacy, its destination, while taking the route of Hanuman Mandir crossing," he said.

"The entire concept revolves around creating the awareness of oneness among the people as the spots falling enroute Delegacy are all associated with religion, literature, education, etc which reminds that the concept of shared heritage is still alive in the city," he added.

Convener of the event Ajai Jaitly said Kala Mela will be organised from February 2 to 5 at Delegacy, Allahabad University in which more than 100 institutions and 1000 artistes will participate.

"Prof RG Harshe, Vice Chancellor Allahabad University would inaugurate the event while Rita Sinha, principal secretary, Culture and Tourism, UP Government, has been invited as the chief guest.

The main participatory institutions would be UP Sangeet Natak Akademi, Bhartendu Natak Akademi, NCZCC, State Lalit Kala Akademi, Centre of Photojournalism and Visual Communication etc.," he added.

"The event is workshop based in which the experts will provide guidance in the workshops of portrait, screen printing, clay modelling, photography, theatre, painting, graphics, mural.

The opening would be marked by the traditional folk dances of Punjab by the artistes of Mohali," he added.

Ajamil, who was also present on the occasion, informed about holding of two seminars and poets conference in which prominent personalities will participate.

Sunil Srivastav, Abhay Awasthi, Niranjan Singh and Gopal Ranjan were also present.
