The NDA government is likely to appoint former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh as the governor of Rajasthan, and pick BJP veterans for Raj Bhavan’s in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa.
According to sources, the new governor’s are all likely to be closely affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
The President’s House may officially announce the names as early as Tuesday.
Meanwhile, amidst talk of resignation, Kerala governor and former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit met President Pranab Mukherjee and home minister Rajnath Singh. She denied any plans of resigning governorship.
On August 11, Kalyan Singh had claimed that he was offered the post of the governor of Rajasthan and has accepted the position ‘happily’.
The post of Karnataka governor is lying vacant since July this year when HR Bhardwaj retired after completing a tenure of five years. Rajasthan’s governor Margaret Alva completed her tenure early this month and Maharashtra’s Raj Bhavan has been vacant since the resignation of K Sankaranarayanan, following his transfer to Mizoram.
The NDA government has so far appointed six governors.
Some of these vacancies arose after Union home secretary Anil Goswami called the incumbents, nudging them to put in their papers.
But Uttarakhand governor Aziz Qureshi has challenged the Modi-led government’s move to ease him out of office, bringing up the controversy of the removal of UPA-appointed governors under judicial scrutiny.
