Rapper Kanye West has kicked up a new controversy with America's Catholic League after he posed as a wounded Christ on the cover of the upcoming issue of the magazine Rolling Stone.

According to, West appears bloodied wearing a crown of thorns on his head, upsetting religious group leaders who are calling it offensive and trite.

The Catholic League spokesperson says: "It is moronic. I mean, Kanye West as Jesus? He is a pop star."

But West insists he has a lot in common with Christ since he had to fight for recognition and suffer for success. He says: "If I was more complacent and I let things slide, my life would be easier, but you all wouldn't be as entertained. My misery is your pleasure."
