The DMK president was supposed to be in the capital for three days. His visit has been deferred because he is "slightly indisposed", sources in the chief minister's office (CMO) said.

The 84-year-old Karunanidhi went for a check up to the Apollo Hospital here on Wednesday morning. His legs were slightly swollen, aides to the chief minister said.

Karunanidhi had a full day of appointments in New Delhi. He was supposed to meet Left leaders as well as Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

His input into the presidential election is seen as crucial because the Left, whose vote is pivotal for the UPA, has said it would take a final decision only after discussions with the DMK chief.
