Kashi Vishwanath temple paint under scanner

STATE INFORMATION commissioner Gyanendra Sharma has constituted a three-member technical committee of chemical engineers to study the chemical paint used at ancient Kashi Vishwanath temple, situated in the sensitive Gyanwapi complex in Varanasi.

STATE INFORMATION commissioner Gyanendra Sharma has constituted a three-member technical committee of chemical engineers to study the chemical paint used at ancient Kashi Vishwanath temple, situated in the sensitive Gyanwapi complex in Varanasi.

Talking to mediapersons here on Thursday evening, Sharma said the committee -- that included director of Institute of Technology (IT) in Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Prof SN Upadiyay, Dr PK Mishra and Dr Pradeep Srivastava (faculty members of Chemical Engineering department of BHU) -- had been constituted to examine chemical paints, used on the walls of Kashi Vishawanath temple.

“The committee will work on three points: Is the dust of chemical paints, used in Kashi Vishwanath temple dangerous for Human health, Is chemical paints giving adverse affect to sculptor and ancient glory of Kashi Vishwanath temple, and what method will be suitable to remove chemical paints in case it was dangerous for human health and destroying sculptor of the temple”, he said. The committee would submit its report to the information commission within one month, he said. Sharma said that in-charge executive officer of the temple, Indra Vikram Singh, had been appointed as the coordinator of committee.

“The authorities have been directed to allow the committee to visit Kashi Vishawanath temple on Saturday and take samples of chemical paints”, he said.

Regarding a case of SP leader Shatrudra Prakash, vs principal secretary, Religious Affairs, the official said that additional city commissioner Prakash Chandra Tiwari was summoned by the commission to inform him about the missing file of Tarkeshwar and Rani Bhavan Temples.
