Kashmir: 1 soldier dead, 5 hurt in accidental blast

Six soldiers were wounded today after an accidental blast inside an Army camp in north Kashmir, officials said.

An Army soldier died and at least five were injured on Thursday after an accidental blast inside a camp in north Kashmir, officials said.

Para trooper Sham Singh, who was seriously wounded after a grenade exploded inside a camp in frontier district of Kupwara around 10:30am, died at Army's base hospital in Srinagar.

A senior Army official quoting its spokesman Naresh Vij said that a grenade exploded inside 21 Rashtriya Rifles camp in Zachadara area of Handwara administratively part of Kupwara district.

He said that the device exploded when the soldiers were preparing for an operation.

"A group of soldiers were assembling the weapons needed during the operation when a grenade exploded accidentally," Pandey said.

"Three soldiers were shifted to Army's base hospital. As per doctors one is very critical," he said.
