The state home department is expected to write to the Centre in this regard, based on a report submitted to the state government by additional director general of police (prison), Alexander Jacob, official sources said.

A large number of mobile phones had been seized from prisons during searches conducted by the authorities recently.

The probe by the state agencies had thoroughly examined some of these phones and it was found calls had made even to foreign countries, sources said.
