A RELATIVE of the Union Minister of State for Steel showed the minister’s card to traffic policemen when the Qualis he was travelling in was stopped on the seventh day of the traffic drive on Tuesday. There was a red beacon and two hooters atop the vehicle.
The incident took place at Rama Bai crossing in Gomti Nagar.
When asked how he was moving in the vehicle with the minister’s profile and MP’s card, the man was speechless. Policemen later removed the hooter and the beacon.
Similarly, a red beacon and a hooter were found on a Tata Sumo (UP 44 H-9484) of State Women Commission member Vidyawati Rajbhar at Hazratganj. Her police gunner was moving in the vehicle.
The gunner initially engaged in a tiff with the policemen, but the beacon and the hooter were removed.
The Tata Safari of a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader was stopped by Traffic Circle Officer RN Singh, as he saw a youth with a rifle in the front seat. A revolver was lying on the dashboard. The CO asked the youth to show the weapon’s licence. The CO snubbed the youth, as the licence was in the name of a BSP leader.
Meanwhile the State Government on Tuesday said 1400 vehicles were challaned and 70 seized during the ongoing drive against red, blue beacons and hooters in Uttar Pradesh.Secretary, Home, RM Srivastava said the challaned vehicles included 71 fitted with red beacons. Out of them, three vehicles were seized, he said.
