EMPLOYEES OF the Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) have called a meeting on Thursday under the banner of Karamchari Sanyukt Sangh to decide the future course of action on the issue of payment of salary.
EMPLOYEES OF the Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) have called a meeting on Thursday under the banner of Karamchari Sanyukt Sangh to decide the future course of action on the issue of payment of salary.

Even after two months, KMC employees have not received their wages. All the employees union affiliated to different political parties have now decided to wage a decisive battle against non-payment of salary.
In the meeting scheduled to take place at KMC campus any formal decision relating to strike could be taken by the employees to press for their demand of payment of wages. About 6900 employees of KMC have not received their wages for the month of September and October. Even on the festive occasions of Diwali and Id, employees did not get their wages.
Employees’ union leader of KMC Prakash Hazaria said, “Now it’s high time to take action against the indifferent attitude of State Government. All the employees’ unions are invited on Thursday’s meeting and any decision relating to strike or work boycott will be taken in the meeting,” he informed.
It may be pointed out that Allahabad High court had imposed a ban on all payments to be made by KMC, including salary of employees. The judgment was delivered by the court while disposing a writ petition filed by the Pensioners’ Association of KMC. Pensioners have demanded payment of their pending dues.
Reeling under financial crisis, KMC had not been able to clear pending dues worth Rs 70 crore of its pensioners. Municipal Commissioner Badal Chatterjee is personally looking after the case and representing KMC before the high court.
Problems for KMC were further compounded when the State Government refused to extend any financial assistance to the civic body. Now when employees have realised that no help would be coming from the State Government, as a last resort employees could resort to strike to press for their demand.
