It's a white-tablecloth restaurant that has more flash than dash. It's obvious that a lot of thought has gone into the décor – stained glasses by Malvika Tiwari, for instance – and the selection of crockery, cutlery and table linen, but the food certainly doesn't measure up to the expectations that the interiors are bound to raise. It may be because it's difficult to run a French fine-dining restaurant in a city where it's very hard to source the kind of ingredients that an enterprise of this nature would require. Or maybe, the restaurant's ambition doesn't match the talent in the kitchen. It's not worth a visit. You'll be better off going to the hotel's less-hyped Italian restaurant.

Wine List: The Imperial has an extensive, well-researched wine list, but many of the labels may not be familiar to diners. Our comments on the list will appear with the review of San Gimignano.
