Landslides claim 8 lives in Raigad

Eight persons were killed and several more trapped under the debris in a fresh landslide in Maharashtra.

Eight persons were killed and several more trapped under the debris in a fresh landslide at Dasgaon, in Raigad district, police sources said on Wednesday.

"Eight bodies have been recovered from under the debris after the landslide which occurred last night," police sources said adding that 40 persons are still feared trapped and efforts are on to rescue them.

Rescue work was initiated this morning after there was little respite from heavy rains.

As many as 54 people have died in Raigad district in landlsides triggered by heavy rains in Konkan region since Sunday.
