According to police, 13 fishermen from the coastal village Pushpavanam ventured into the sea in four fibre boats on July 23.
While they were returning to the shores on Monday, Sri Lankan Naval personnel intercepted and forced them to jump from the boats into the sea.
After the fishermen leaped into the water, the naval personnel fired at the boats, in which one of the boat sanked.
While two boats loaded with fish were taken away by them, they did not harm the fourth boat and left after giving a warning.
The petrified fishermen however managed to reach the coast with the lone boat and lodged a complaint in this regard with the Vedaranyam police station, police added.
