Selectors in the island nation first took note of him when he took 6 for 90 against a Northern Territory Chief Minister's XI. That paved the way for his inclusion in the Test team and rookie Malinga didn't disappoint taking Darren Lehmann and Adam Gilchrist in the same over.

However what could be a matter of concern for Sri Lanka and him is his propensity to bowl no-balls. Touted as Lanka's fastest
bowler he bowls with a distinctive and explosive round-arm action.
