Law minister sets October deadline gurdwara panel polls

Law minister Mir Saifullah discussed the modalities for conducting the District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC) elections in the state in a meeting with officers here on Tuesday. Saifullah directed the authorities concerned to take all necessary steps for the DGPC elections, which he said should be completed by October.

Financial commissioner, revenue, Arun Kumar; divisional commissioner, Kashmir, Shailendra Kumar; Pradeep Gupta, divisional commissioner, Jammu; law secretary Farhat Tasneem and other senior officers discussed measures for conducting free and fair election. The electoral rolls under the J&K Sikh Gurdwara and Religious Endowment Act, 1973, will be finalised by mid-August and put on display for objections at tehsil and district-level headquarters immediately, the officials decided.
