Acting on a tip off, security forces raided the house of LeT district commander Mehraj Khalid Banday alias Abu Tallah in Bharat village of Doda district on Wednesday night, official sources said on Thursday.

Banday, who had come to meet his family members after two years, was arrested in the raid, they said adding that he was immediately whisked away to an unknown destination by the security forces for interrogation.

Banday was LeT district commander for Anantnag district and was operating in south Kashmir since 2002, they said.

He was earlier a member of the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit and had been trained in Pakistan in 1998, the sources said adding he later joined Lashkar in 2001.

A person was arrested by the CRPF while moving suspiciously on the office roof of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party in posh Gandhi Nagar area of Jammu city late on Wednesday night.

While his associate escaped, he was arrested after a chase by CRPF personnel, they said adding he has been sent for interrogation.
