AFTER A gap of approximately two decades, people can once again enjoy the light and sound programme at Chandra Shekhar Azad Park also known as Alfred Park, from next year.
The Allahabad High Court has issued directives to the district administration in this regard. The programme is formulated especially to attract tourists during ensuing Ardha Kumbh Mela 2007.
Advocate General SMA Kazmi is expected to be over-all in charge of this project to ensure financial sanction from the State government. “We expect and desire light and sound programme to start on or before January 1, 2007”, the court observed in its order dated October 17.
The estimated budget for the said programme is of Rs 48 lakh. Vice chairman of Allahabad Development Himanshu Kumar, commissioner, the district magistrate and the Allahabad University have approved and accepted on principle to act on the proposal of light and sound programme.
“The programme shall be very educative and inculcate nationalism in the young generation, besides providing healthy recreation to all , particularly university students in large numbers, as this park is situated just opposite Hindu Hostel of Allahabad University”, the court observed.
It is to be noted that a light and sound programme was successfully organised at Madan Mohan Malviya stadium in 1970. It drew much applause from the audience for its good quality.
