At least 10 people including a two-year-old girl were killed and several others injured in separate lightning strikes in different parts of Orissa in the last two days, officials said on Saturday.
While four people died and two were injured in the coastal district of Balasore on Saturday, three members of a family - a minor girl and her parents - were killed at Baji village in Cuttack district on Friday afternoon.
Three more people died in Puri district on the same day.
"The lightning struck a tree at Dahunada village in Balasore district, some 200 km from Bhubaneswar at around 11.45 am killing Jhadeswar Sahu, 35, Bhagban Behera, 30 and Bansidhar Behera, 35, and injured two others," local administrative official Prasanta Kumar Mohapatra told IANS.
The injured have been admitted in the local hospital where their condition was critical, he said.
The other person who died in the district has been identified as Ravindra Pradhan. A resident of Chakjamalpur village, he was killed by lightning while working in a paddy field, Mohapatra said.
Three members of a family who died in Cuttack district were sleeping at home when their house was struck by lightning.
The three people who died in Puri district have been identified as Krushnachandra Sahu, 33, Natha Behera, 55, and Padmanabha Mallik, a district police official said.
