Hewitt's triumph against Nalbandian in 2002 gave heart to the army of baseliners who believe that you can win at Wimbledon without approaching the net.

Last year, however, Hewitt's title defence lasted just two hours 24 minutes when he became the first Wimbledon's men's champion to stumble at the first hurdle since tennis turned professional in 1968.

Despite progressing to the semi-finals of the Stella Artois Championships last week, there is a feeling that the tenacious Australian is still a notch or two below the front runners for the title.

However, the Adelaide fighter insists his competitive juices are flowing again and he is ready to prove his point.
