The residents and relatives of the deceased Kapil Dev Maurya came on the streets, torched the effigy of police, holding it responsbile for the gruesome murder of the youth.

Senior police officers rushed to the spot and tried to convince the agitating mob that efforts would be made to track down the killers. On assurance of
senior police officers, the agitating protesters lifted the dharna.

It may be mentioned, the body of Kapil Dev Maurya, resident of Rajpura locality of Bhadhoi was found lying on the railway track in Shivdaspur village in Kapsethi on Wednesday. The body bore injuries on face and neck.

However, according to reports, details recovered from the deceased pointed towards involvement of some police personnel posted under Mehmoorganj police post in looting Rs 40,000.

Senior police officers including Superintendent of Police (Rural) LK Singh rushed to Kapsethi police station and also enquired the police record of Mehmoorganj police on Thursday.

"We are verifying the facts and till now no concrete evidence has been found which could point towards the involvement of policemen in looting money and the subsequent killing,” Singh told HT.

As the protesters were demanding registration of a case against police personnel of Mehmoorganj police post, the police officials at Bhadhoi expressed their helplessness in the matter.

There are, however, reports that no case has been registered by Kapsethi police station, under which the body was found.
