LS Speaker unhappy over absence of MPs

Somnath expressed unhappiness over members who were supposed to ask questions to the Govt on important issues.

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee on Friday expressed unhappiness over members, who had questions listed against their names, being absent from the House during Question Hour.

He observed he could "only express his unhappiness" over the absence of MPs who were supposed to ask questions to the government on important issues.

His remarks came after two consecutive listed questions could not be taken up for discussion during Question Hour when four members against whom these were marked were absent.

After the Question Hour, the Speaker announced that MPs, who are listed to ask questions, would have to sit on seats earmarked for them to be able to ask questions.

"This practice will be strictly observed from Monday," Chatterjee said.
