CONGRESS PRESIDENT Sonia Gandhi’s victory has lit up the faces of NSUI activists and varsity student leaders affiliated to the Congress on Friday.

Jubilant student leaders took out a victory procession on the campus. Elated leaders lit crackers and raised slogans favouring their party and Congress chief Gandhi. Led by LUSU general secretary Vinod Tripathi, dozens of supporters danced to the tunes of beating of dhol and majira. The Congress student leaders exuded confidence that this would boost the party’s prospects in the State and Congress would again wrest the reign of the State when the next assembly election takes place.

In sharp contrast, SP student leaders and supporters put up dull and grim faces. The feeling of defeat was writ large on their faces. While the Congress student leaders celebrated all through the day, the SP student wing remained a mute spectator. And as the NSUI student leader took out a procession, the SP student leaders left the campus.

The SP student leader, however, maintained that Congress must not get carried away with this victory as it was confined to just one constituency. “The position of the Congress party would get clear when the assembly election takes place. SP is bound to win the assembly election,” said an ardent SP supporter.
