Lyngdoh panel norms to be followed

DDU GORAKHPUR university administration has geared up to conduct the students’ union election under the guidelines suggested by Lyngdoh Commission.
The impact of the suggestion was clearly visible in the election code of conduct designed by the election officer Prof Maheshwar Shukla.

Sources claimed that if the recommendations of Lyngdoh Commission were implemented in its full spirits, it would be entirely different students’ union election this time.

According to the guidelines, students’ leaders with criminal background would not be allowed to participate in election and the maximum expenditure had to be Rs 5000 only.

No procession would be allowed and no meeting could be organised without prior permission of the administration.

The nomination process of DDU Gorakhpur University election would start tomorrow. The classes will remain suspended on December 4 and 5 in view of the nomination process. The chief proctor office will remain opened on Sunday to issue the admit cards. Heavy police force has been deployed in the campus.
The nomination papers would be scrutinised on December 7 and polling would be held on December 12 between 8 am to 2 pm.

The counting of vote would start soon after the polling. Election officer Prof Maheshwar Shukla said that nomination form would be made available at Academic building and election would be held for 29 posts including one each of president, vice-president, general secretary and library secretary.

Prof Shukla said the code of conduct would be implemented strictly and no one would be allowed to violate the code of conduct. A high power committee would monitor the code of conduct of the leaders, he added.

The election officer said a limit of Rs 5,000 had been kept for each student’s leader contesting for any post to spend on the campaign.

As per the code of conduct a students leader contesting for any post would be allowed to take out procession once onlywith the permission of the either the chief proctor of the election officer.

The student were quite happy to hear about this decision and opined that the student union will be a better one this time. Meanwhile, the student leaders have kicked off the election campaign and personal contact campaign continued in many hostels.
