Mahindra adjudged 12th best football club in Asia
Mahindra has been ranked the 12th best football club in Asia, the only one from India on NFL's global rankings.
Mahindra United have been ranked the 12th best football club in Asia and become the only one from India to be named in the prestigious International Federation of Football History and Statistics' global rankings.
The National Football League (NFL) titleholder has been ranked 207th in world.
"IFFHS June 2006 world club ranking shows the Mumbai-based Mahindra United placed 207th with two top Asian clubs - Selangor Bukit Jalil of Malaysia and Al-Ittihad Aleppo of Syria. Liverpool of England is World No 1 Club," said a club spokesman on Saturday.
Congratulating the team, Anand Mahindra, vice chairman and managing director, Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd, said: "This is a global milestone for Mahindras and for Indian football.
"The team has achieved an international benchmark for other clubs to follow and all credit to the 'Dreaded Men in Red' and the team management for it. I am glad they are leading the way for Indians to become world beaters."
The rankings are a double glory for the "Dreaded Men in Red", as Mahindra United is called, coming as it does on the heels of the club's maiden NFL win in May.
The world ranking is calculated from the national and international results of the clubs during the previous 12-month period.
