Calling upon the people to usher in a change in government in West Bengal like that in Bihar, Trinamool Congress Chairperson Mamata Banerjee has said that the TC-led "Gana Front" was the only alternative to the CPI-M.

"There was change of government in every state as well as at the Centre barring West Bengal. It is because there is no democracy in this state under the 29-year-rule of the CPI-M-led Left Front," she told an election meeting in Howrah on Tuesday night.
Projecting her party-led front as the only "real" alternative, Banerjee took a dig at the Congress for not joining hands with the TC to stop a split in anti-left votes.
She called upon Congressmen to take a decision to defeat the CPI-M in the election.
"I told Congress leaders that you need CPI-M in Delhi to run the UPA government. But in Bengal, let us not bring the politics of Delhi. Don't let the CPI-M continue," she said.
"Those who will not fight the CPI-M will be dubbed as Mir Zaffar."
She said that if the voters in Bihar could bring in a change of government after 15 years, "why can't we do it here? Why should the people be afraid of CPI-M terror?"
