Narayan, a 40-year-old pump operator, was trapped when a part of the 90-metre-long tunnel, which is being constructed for an irrigation project to supply water to Udaipur city from Devas village, came crashing down on Thursday afternoon, a district official told IANS.
People came to know that he was stuck inside only after a headcount of workers was taken Thursday evening. Rescue workers established contact with Narayan Friday by pushing a four-inch pipe through the debris.
"We are passing oxygen and food to Narayan through this pipe. We have also sent a torch to him. He seems to be in a stable condition," a senior district administration official said.
"Engineers working on the site say that three-four metres is still left to reach him... we are hopeful to get him out sometime tomorrow (Wednesday)," said Udaipur district collector Hemant Gera.
Devas is over 30 km from Udaipur city.
