Man, wife killed, kids serious injured in Samba mishap

A Sunday visit to a religious shrine ended up in a tragedy for a Jammu family. Ravinder Sharma, 45, and his wife Sonia Devi, 40, were killed and their daughter and son injured in an accident between their Hyundai Santro car and a Punjab Roadways bus in Samba, 35 kilometres from here, on Sunday afternoon.

Sonia, 16, and Vivek, 10, are stated to be in a serious condition. Police said that the car was about to enter the highway when the truck rammed into it on National Highway-1, killing the couple on the spot.

A police official said that the children were being treated at Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu. "The family was returning after paying obeisance at Baba Sidh Goria shrine, when the accident took place" he said, adding that the driver of the bus managed to escape. A case has been registered and manhunt launched to nab the driver.
