Coordinator of Childline Eshaan Sharma informed that after print and electronic media covered news about Vaishali who was left by her parents in a crèche, a lot of people are calling up for information about her. Childline received almost two dozen calls from people who wish to adopt the girl. Out of these, three calls were from Saharanpur and New Delhi. A professor of IIM-L is also interested in adopting the child.
But Vaishali cannot be adopted at present. According to the provisions of Juvenile Justice Act 2000, in case of abandoned children, a child can only be adopted only after three months of his/her presentation to the Child Welfare Committee. It is also the committee’s discretion when it allowed the adoption of the child, informed Sharma.
He said, besides these calls, Childline is also getting calls from children who want to know about Vaishali. A boy studying in class 10, along with her younger sister, called up and wanted to visit Vaishali.
Qaiserbagh police tried to find out the Ashiana school named by Vaishali but couldn’t find. Childline volunteers are also trying to talk to contact schools to inquire about the girl’s parents.
She was brought to Childline last Friday afternoon with the help of Qaiserbagh Police Station. A man who introduced himself as Ashwani Kumar Agarwal, her father, along with another man who he said was his father-in-law, went to the Childcare Crèche in Lalbagh and admitted Vaishali there on August 21. They never came to take her back.
