Maoist commits suicide in court lock-up

A suspected Maoist allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with the roof of a toilet at Bankura district court, where he was taken for production, police said today.

A suspected Maoist allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself with the roof of a toilet at Bankura district court, where he was taken for production, police said today.

Shibdas Pratihar (30) was arrested on August 29 from Makarkol village and had been remanded to police custody.

After the custody period got over yesterday, he was taken to the the court of Additional Chief Judicial magistrate at Khatra for production, they said.

While waiting for his turn, Pratihar went to use the toilet. When he did not returned for some time, the on-duty policemen broke open the door of the toilet, attached to the court's lock-up, to found him hanging.

Pratihar used the lungi, he was wearing, to hang himself, they said adding he was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.
