A group of five extremists burnt the equipment of the cell-phone tower late last night as part of a bandh call given by CPI-Maoists in protest against the recent killing of their top leader Azad in a police encounter, they said.

A search has been launched to nab the ultras who fled the scene soon after the incident and efforts were on to repair the mobile phone services which have been disrupted, Visakhapatnam(Rural) District Superintendent of Police Vineet Brijlal told PTI.

He said a high alert has already been sounded in the Andhra-Orissa Border(AOB) and security was tightened and patrolling intensified in Maoist affected areas.
